You have decided to marry – you have a venue
and a date, and plan to have a Justice of the Peace marry you. Now you have to
find the perfect JP. How do you do that?
- Start early –as soon as you have booked the
venue. Good JP’s, like popular venues, book early, often 12 months or more in
advance.
·
Think about any criteria you might have – age,
gender, experience.
- Check out web sites – is the web site
informative, helpful, and does it give you a sense of the person who wrote it
and his/her values?
- Send a contact e-mail with a few questions –
availability for the date and location of your ceremony as well as fees are helpful.
Do you receive a prompt reply and are your questions answered?
- Schedule a meeting/consultation, usually at the
JP’s home – find out if there is going to be a fee associated with the meeting.
- Meet with the JP – have a list of questions
prepared.
- Decide
whether the JP is the perfect person to perform this most important service for
you – is he/she someone you feel comfortable with, will the JP be a calming
presence for you, and does he/she share your vision for your ceremony or is he/she
willing to help you create one?
·
If you are interviewing more than one JP, make
your decision and inform everyone as soon as possible.
